Perseverance & Determination are Key
To get admitted to a public rehab, the addicted person will have to call the facility every day to see if a bed or a spot is free. It is the system most centers use that seems to work well.
Perseverance and determination are the keys to admission to an in-province-funded treatment center. A Healthcare practitioner’s reference may help the speed of admittance. The referral can come from a family doctor or an addiction counsellor. Ask the facility for more precision on this.
Requirements for Admission
Different provinces and cities will have varying requirements for admission. Our healthcare system has its challenges. Ontario and British Columbia will face most of its challenges due to their population. Canada saw, in the last few decades, with the opioid crisis, an increase in demand for addiction services. With the advent of Covid-19, the strain on the healthcare system reached a new height. Additionally, the Healthcare budget allocated to addiction treatment programs is less than 10% of the yearly budget. 10% goes to Mental Health and a percentage of that to substance abuse treatment.
Canadians have other options, such as the private sector, for drug and alcohol treatment. This is a paid-for service and out-of-pocket expense, though some treatment centers accept insurance coverage. Nevertheless, many private drug and alcohol treatment programs offer different financial options for those who want their services. Private care for drug and alcohol addiction can be an option.
